Prof. Joe has provided unofficial systems and applications support to the Faculty of Humanities for some years now. He began his flirtation with computers during an involuntary hiatus from the professoriate between 1982-1987. While employed in university administration, he computerized institutional funding reports, using MultiPlan on an Apple ][ running CP/M. Then came the dawning of civilization and 386 processors.

Upon his return to an academic position in the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies, Prof. Joe was appointed Academic Liaison to the Language Learning Centre. He requested the Dean to form the Faculty Humanities Computing Committee, the first faculty committee of its kind. He has been active for a number of consecutive years as the Faculty of Humanities representative on the university's Committee on Computing and Communications Policy. He has represented Brock University on the Board of Governors of the Consortium for Computers in the Humanities/Consortium pour ordinateurs dans les sciences humaines (COCH/COSH).

This Web page Faculty Report is the result of Prof. Joe's commitment to the application of the new electronic technology to research and the curriculum in the Humanities.

Prof. Joe will spend 1995-1996 in Freiburg, Germany as the Resident Director of the Brock/Trent/McMaster Study Year in Freiburg Programme. He may be reached after August 20, 1995 at trebro@sun1.ruf.uni-freiburg.de
