Tourism

The Niagara Region of Ontario, situated on the peninsula between Lake Ontario to the north, Lake Erie to the south, and separated from our American neighbours by the Niagara River and Gorge on the east, provides the best wine growing conditions in Canada. Niagara on the Lake, home to the Shaw Festival, is an historic town full of culture and cuisine. The City of St. Catharines, the site of Brock University, saw significant development during the building of the Welland Canals that linked the upper Great Lakes with the St. Lawrence Seaway and the North Atlantic.

The Peninsula was a site of significant military action during the War of 1812 between the British Colony of Upper Canada and the then young United States of America. Both Canadian and American residents of the Niagara region are preparing to celebrate the upcoming bicentennial of the colonial era war.

The world natural heritage site of Niagara Falls is within a 20 minute drive from the conference location.

Conference attendees may travel by train from Toronto aboard Via Rail or New York aboard Amtrak. National and international flights that arrive at John C. Munro Airport in Hamilton ON, Pearson Airport in Toronto ON, or Buffalo Niagara International Airport in Buffalo NY will connect with shuttle bus service to the Niagara Region (for example Niagara Airbus). National and international flights that arrive at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Toronto Island) may connect with Via Rail service from Union Station (Toronto) to St. Catharines or scheduled coach service from the Toronto Bay Street Bus Terminal.

Bus travel in the region is provided by Coach Canada/Coach USA and Greyhound.

Private vehicular traffic is well served by the QEW 400-series highways in Ontario and the New York Interstate Highway system.

Surface Border crossings are available at Lewiston (NY), Niagara Falls, and Fort Erie/Buffalo.
