Designing the Performance Spaces 22 to 26 June, 2011, Prague CZ
This international conference coincides with the Prague Quadrennial 2011, and is prepared by the Arts and
Theatre Institute Prague and the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague, in association with the
Scenography Working Group of the International Federation for Theatre Research. Brought together under
the umbrella of global scenographic practice for theatrical, visual, events and exhibition design, this
conference invites theatre professionals and scholars to dialogue on historical and contemporary trends
concerned with the creation of meaning through visual, spatial, and aural design of performance and

We convened in Munich (DE) for the FIRT-IFTR 2010 conference Cultures of Modernity.
In 2010 we also collaborated with Regent's College and STR (Society for Theatre Research) for a small conference
in London (UK), Scenography Stages the Nation.

The Scenography Working Group met at the IFTR/FIRT 2009 conference in Lisbon, Portugal:
Silent Voices/Forbidden Lives: Censorship and performance. July 14 to 17th, 2009:
We invited submissions related to the main conference theme and our mission statement,
with specific reference to THE POLITICS OF THEATRE SPACE: CENSORSHIP AND OTHER CONSTRAINTS
